Sri Lanka vs West Indies, 2nd Test – Day 3

Day two of the second Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies had ended in Sri Lanka’s favour, but day three belonged largely to the West Indies.

At the start of play on day three, the West Indies were 58 for 1, and that lone wicket had fallen in the final session of day two to Asitha Fernando.

Asitha struck again on day three, dismissing John Campbell — who had reached 72 — in the very over before the lunch break.

After the break, Prabath Jayasuriya got in on the act, removing both Kavem Hodge and Amir Jangoo, the latter having scored a double century in the previous Test. This brought Sri Lanka back into the match, with the West Indies reduced to 144 for 4 in their first innings.

However, from that point until stumps on day three, the Sri Lankan bowlers were unable to take another wicket.

Shai Hope, unbeaten on 86, and Justin Greaves, unbeaten on 85, built an unbroken 174-run partnership for the fifth wicket and remained solidly at the crease.

Today is day four of the match.
