Sri Lanka have won all four of their most recently completed matches, marking another positive step forward for the national football team. Across those four games, Sri Lanka scored 12 goals while conceding just two.
The latest milestone came in the second match against Seychelles in Victoria. Sri Lanka secured a 2–0 victory to win a series against Seychelles for the first time in 12 years.
Sri Lanka took the lead in the 32nd minute through Dilon de Silva. Earlier, in the 20th minute, an injury to Claudio Kammerknecht forced the team to bring on Anujan Rajendram. However, the sudden change did not disrupt Sri Lanka’s momentum.
Following Dilon’s opener, Sri Lanka maintained their 1–0 lead for more than 50 minutes. With just six minutes remaining, Wasim Razeek scored in the 84th minute to seal the victory for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka had won the first match 3–0, meaning they scored five goals across the two-match series without conceding a single goal.
The most notable feature of this run has been the team’s consistency.
Before the Seychelles series, Sri Lanka recorded a 3–1 victory over Chinese Taipei and a 4–1 win against Bhutan. They then defeated Seychelles 3–0 in the first match before completing the series with a 2–0 victory in the second game.
Across their four consecutive victories, Sri Lanka have averaged three goals per match, while conceding an average of just one goal every two games. Although Chinese Taipei and Bhutan each scored once against Sri Lanka, keeping clean sheets in both matches against Seychelles highlighted the strength of the Sri Lankan defence.
However, the next major challenge will come against Mauritius, who are currently ranked 167th in the world. Sri Lanka are scheduled to face Mauritius in a friendly on Friday, October 2, followed by an international match on Monday, October 5.
